Earth Hour: March 26 2011

Today/night was the designated “Earth Hour” when some of us made a committment to switch off lighting and power for an hour.
To me (although I committed….and did so) this “earth hour” is a bit of a non event!!
WHAT is the point of “turning off power for one hour on one night —out of 365 nights??
What does that achieve…….except to give some people some “warm fuzzy feeling”!
It is NOT going to reduce man’s carbon footprint on our planet by much (if anything).
Will it do ANYTHING to reduce the atomic fall-out in Japan?
I think not!
I have no answers

  1. Maureen – I feel the same this year.

In previous years I did it – but this year I read in the SMH that

“one day of a large office building’s energy use can equal one year for a typical Sydney house”.

Tell the Sydney skyscrapers to switch off their lights when everyone leaves the office!!

    🙂 sue 🙂
