Strawberry Jam

Yesterday was our monthly Book Club meeting.
If you want a good read, try Ben Elton’s “The first Casualty” set in 1917 and the battlefields of World War 1.
Initially, I was not looking forward to reading the novel because I had preconceived ideas of Elton being a comic.
(I couldn’t have been further from the truth!)
His subject was well researched and presented: It is not a book that one can quickly skim through as it involves some weighty discussions, but once I started I could not put it down.

Anyway, this posting is meant to be about my strawberry jam making! One of club friends lives in a district renowned for its strawberry production, and she kindly brought me one kilo of luscious red berries.
I knew that is I didn’t turn to making the jam ASAP, all those luscious berries would be consumed.1-DSC02882

When I had completed and bottled the jam, I was a little worried that the jam’s consistency would be too runny.
However this morning, after it had cooled overnight, I was happy that it was no longer “runny”.

Another friend has promised me more cumquats! I really should be getting busy on my southerncrosscrazies Round Robin so that it can be sent back to its owner.
As for my CQJOURNAL 2014 pieces! They have been languishing for nearly four months! The year will be over before I get up to speed on them.
Then there’s my “No theme” and “Hand stitched” cards waiting in the wings……..I guess I will need get ORGANISED!

  1. My mouth is watering just reading this post about strawberry preserves.

  2. Having enough strawberries to make jam would be heavenly!

  3. One kg of really yummy “jam “berries cost me Au$4. I HAD to make the jam/conserve IMMEDIATELY, otherwise they would all have been devoured. It was a hard call, as I prefer fresh fruit any time.and they are really LUSCIOUS atm
